Today I’m very excited to share a very honest and thought-provoking guest post by my friend, Lea Meyer.  She’s made a lot of changes to her business lately and I asked if she’d share how her branding has changed through the course of these last few months as well.  I think you’ll really like what she has to say about how branding is a process.

I am a big believer in building a business around who you are and that is why I made another bold move and rebranded Lea Meyer Studio.  While our urge in this era seems to be fast, fast, fast, and designers who deliver quickly are certainly in demand, I am by nature one who values depth.  So my studio has become a space that embraces branding as an experience.

If I have learned anything in my years working as an Identity Designer, it is that branding is a process.  Your identity is always evolving, so, in a business that is built around who you are, your brand is in a process of growth and change as are you.

I notice that fast, fast, fast creates a certain anxiety.  If we need to create your brand by tomorrow and that brand is going to follow you until the end of time, you are under a lot of pressure to “get it right.”  I want to ease this anxiety and tell you that there is no “right” brand into which you will settle at long last.  Your brand will continue to evolve as the most articulate vision you hold for your business at any given time.

For these reasons, I am designing Lea Meyer Studio as a space in which brands unfold.  I work in depth with just a few new clients each year helping you find expression for the highest vision you hold for your business.  We get the process moving quickly, but we take the time we need to create an expansive structure to express your distinctive purpose.  I commit an entire year to my clients, so that we can create a comprehensive brand across multiple platforms and make refinements along the way.

I know that the way I work doesn’t suit everyone, but it seems to be speaking to the right people.  I really am thankful that I had the courage to honor who I am and to make this move into working in a way that is an authentic expression of who I am.  I know that my brand isn’t static and that my business will continue to evolve, but I am having a lot more fun in this process now that I have created a space in which I feel playful and at ease!

This sense of playfulness is what I want to share with all of you most.  Making a big change to your business or brand doesn’t have to be stressful.  If you feel like you have outgrown your brand, I want you to know that this is something to celebrate!  If your brand no longer fits or feels right, this means that you have had a growth spurt.  Yay, you!  Branding is a beautiful opportunity to deepen your understanding of who you are, what you do and who you are here to serve.

I’m curious how you feel about your brand right now or how you felt going through a big evolution.  Please share your comments with me below!
