We feature a lot of amazing entrepreneurs here but sometimes we interview people who lead creative lives while working for other people as well. It offers a whole new perspective and lots of encouragement to those who just want to add a little spice to their life. That’s why we’re so proud to share our interview with Diana of Our City Lights, who lets us in on some advice about embracing who you are.
In case people don’t know about you and your amazing business, would you tell us about yourself?
I’m a blogger working for a publishing company. I get to meet other editors, read
manuscripts before they hit the bookstores, ghost write for heavy hitting clients, and
travel to conferences across the world, and it gives me a chance to blog about my life
on my blog.
You’re the creator and editor of Gadchick, a digital magazine for woman who love gadgets. What inspired you to start such a huge project?
I was inspired by the tech blogs run by mostly men. I wanted a balance of the love of
technology, gadgets, video games but women written by women. It’s not dumbed down,
but it’s also not throwing tech lingo for those not familiar.
Your blog really plays a large part in your life. Why do you think having a blog is important for creative and artsy people?
Blogging has been a digital diary to me. I don’t have to get so deep and vulnerable, I
can just post photos of what I love, what I’d like to share with my friends and family and
to document the things I can control to share. It’s a scrapbook without the glue!
You are all about showing off your love of pink, cameras, and Hello Kitty. What advice would you give others who are scared to embrace who they truly are?
You know what’s really funny about this? I hated Hello Kitty and the color pink growing
up. Then as I got older, I began to love it. Ten years ago, I would have never thought I’d
own anything pink in my home let alone have a full room devoted to it. It all came down
to what people thought, and as you get older, other people’s opinion’s on your personal
taste start to fade in the background.
You have the coolest house! Can you tell us about your favorite room?
Ha, that would be the crazy pink kitchen. I hate cooking, and doing the dishes. I’m really
minimal in my kitchen accessories, the less the better! When I walk into it, my favorite
color eases the pain of the chores, and the minimalism of clutter reminds me to take a
deep breath. It’s connected to the dining room, I can work as I overlook into bright wide
French doors. It totally beats Starbucks 😉
