Money and success.  The two go hand in hand.  And yet, most people don’t talk about how the two are different for everyone.  Getting really clear on what success means to you and, more importantly, what you need money to do, will help you step into your true worth and charge what you need to in order to reach your dreams of success.

When it comes to money, most entrepreneurs say things like, “I want to make a lot of money,” or, “I want to make six figures.”  But is that how much you really need?  Will you only be happy when you’re making those six figures?

Today I want you to sit down and think about what your big vision for your business is by asking yourself:

  • How many employees would you like to have?
  • Would you have a studio in your home or a separate one?
  • What sort of inventory or equipment will you have?
  • How will you be making your work?  Outsourcing, all by yourself, half and half?

Then think about what your big vision for you life is by asking yourself:

  • Where will you be living?
  • Will you be globetrotting or staying local?
  • Will you be a big donor to charities, non-profits, etc?
  • Will you only be buying handmade to support other artists?
  • Will your partner be working?

All of these answers will help you get down to a number that you need in order to do all the things you want to do in your life and your business.  This number may be very different from that big six-figure number you thought of originally.  Knowing what dollar amount you need to reach to live how you want will help you look at your prices and charge what you’re worth.

You have a bigger vision for your business than you may realize at first.  Some makers want to employ workers in India to create a safe, happy work place in that country.  Some service providers want to help entrepreneurs make enough money for them to send their children to top-notch colleges.  Others, like me, want to launch something huge: a second business.

I’d love to know what number you came up with that equals the success you strive for!  And what does that money equal for you?
