It’s Thanksgiving tomorrow and that means a day with family and lots of food.  It’s also the busiest time of year for your business and that makes it hard for you to relax and enjoy the day.  However, we have a few tips that will help you feel like you’re still working while you’re chatting up your great aunt Mary about her new couch.  Don’t worry, we’re keeping it short today because we all have lots of turkey prep to do.  Hehe.

  1. Set up email autoresponders.  Let people know how many days you’ll be having fun with your family and when they might expect to get a reply or have their goods in the mail.
  2. Allow yourself to check your email on your phone or computer at least once on Thanksgiving.  But after that, try your best to disconnect.  The people emailing you or buying things are with their family too so they certainly don’t expect AT ALL to hear from you immediately.
  3. Set up auto-tweets.  If you have a sale starting on Friday, you definitely want to send out a few tweets on Thursday letting people know.  You can easily use Hootsuite or another platform that syncs with your Twitter feed to schedule your tweets hours or days head of time.
  4. Let people know in your shop announcement that you’ll be gone for x-number of days over the holidays.  That way your customers know when they can expect to hear from you and won’t freak out if they don’t get a thank you email until Sunday.
  5. Lay out your shipping supplies.  If you’re having Thanksgiving somewhere else, lay out your bubble wrap, scissors, boxes, envelopes, and tape ahead of time.  That way when you fly through the door and see all the orders that came in, you’ll be ready to just wrap and go!
  6. Relax!  It’s a holiday after all!  You’re allowed to take days off.  You’ve been running yourself ragged over the last few weeks so it’s definitely time to take a break, drink some wine, eat some pie, and celebrate the time with friends and family.

So take just a few minutes today and get ready for the holidays.  A little prep now will mean you spend Thanksgiving enjoying family, food, and friends while knowing that your business and sales are running smoothly.
