I’m so excited to share my interview with Jess of Jess LC and Makeunder My Life with you today!  Jess is a truly amazing entrepreneur who has a wide-spread business and a blog that will knock your socks off!  I know you’re going to love this one so let’s get right to it!

In case people don’t know about you and your amazing business, would you mind sharing what you do?

Sure! My name is Jess Constable, I am 27 years-old and I live in Chicago. I’m an accessory designer who also helps people design lives and businesses with intention. My company is called Jess LC and my blog is called Makeunder My Life (MML for short). On MML I spend my time sharing my journey to design my life with intention in the hopes to help others do the same. Out of that purpose, people began to ask me to help them with their businesses, and that’s how the Business with Intention consulting was born. I’m excited to say that I just launched my new traveling business workshops!

You offer business consulting, life consulting, and create amazing jewelry, purses, and stationery.  How did you come up with the idea to branch out into so many things?

Well, I think that I’ve grown in so many different directions because I didn’t try to do it all at once. I started slowly focus on one thing and then another… and then another! So they have slowly built up over time. But all along the way my purpose to help people design a life with intention has guided the aspects of my life that have grown. The better I can fulfill that purpose, the better my life becomes.

The whole purpose of Makeunder My Life is to help people design lives with intention.  What do you feel people gain by having their lives revolve around an intention?

I think it’s easy to let our lives revolve around the values and beliefs of our family, friends, and society at large. It’s easy to think we need to measure up to other peoples’ standards in our lives. But by taking the time to define our own intentions and values allows us to then go out in the world and do what truly matters to us personally.

So I think a sense of clarity, confidence, and uniqueness comes into play when someone is truly living by their intentions. It’s not as easy to be swayed by outward expectations as much as inner-drive.

What advice would you offer to someone wishing to follow in your footsteps?

I would take the time to write a future letter to yourself and to read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Those are the first two things that I have done and they have made the largest impact on my life.

Then, I would tell them to pace themselves for the long haul, not just the next two weeks, but forever. Rome is not built in a day and neither is our life. And when things get tough we just gotta remember the whole key to success is to just keep going.

You and your business have evolved so much over the past few years.  Was there ever a time where you worried about failing or met a hard obstacle?  How did you overcome it and push forward?

Oh my goodness! I think I’m pretty much facing a hard obstacle and worried about failing just about every day! And you know what? I think that’s a good thing. That means I’m pushing myself, working towards growing into something new, and refusing to stay still just so I don’t avoid the fear of failure. I “fail” at goals I am working toward all the time. Sure, my goals might be at a higher level than some people’s and lower than other’s, but they are mine and they challenge me.

One of the many, many, many things I’ve struggled with is getting our iPad cases produced. They were a challenge to create, a challenge to produce positively with my manufacturer, and to be honest, not that big of a hit the first week or so. For a while I questioned whether all those months of work were worth it. But over time I just kept going. That doesn’t mean that it’s easy for me now, far from it in fact, but I continue to move forward regardless of what I’ve faced in the past.

I don’t know about you but I feel a little bit better about my business and my constant fear that it’s not ‘good enough’.  Do you?  If you’d like to learn more about building your life around your intentions, check out Jess’s blog!  And you can also learn more about her business coaching and shop for gorgeous earrings, stationery, and purses at Jess LC!
