People don’t just fall in love with your brand, they fall in love with you!  That’s why it’s so important to infuse all of your personality into your business.  In this age of small business, YOU and your WHY are the things that draw people to you and turn them into raving fans.  Your customers are not just buying a purse, they are buying a purse that was sewn by someone who believes what they believe (that purses can be cute AND eco-friendly) and who they feel like they know pretty well (thanks to your blog and tweets).

There are a ton of ways to amp up your personality in your brand including:

1. Beef up your about page. Make sure you have your picture and some of the great tidbits that make people see why you are the expert in your area. What degrees do you have?  What are your goals?  Is there a reason why you’re doing what you’re doing?  Do you have a cat who will make an appearance in every photo you try to take?  Share it!

2. Share your WHY.  Nothing creates more fans and connections that a belief.  Think of Apple and Harley Davidson: People connect with these companies because they align with their beliefs of being anti-conformity and freedom seekers.  What does your company stand for?  What do you believe in?  Do you want to empower women with your jewelry or do you want to encourage playfulness with your handmade dresses?

3. Put your picture on your homepage.  Every small business needs to have a picture of themselves on their homepage.  Customers want to know who creates those amazing products they see or who they will be chatting with for their session.  This is what sets you apart from bigger companies so use it to your advantage.

4. Share more photos of yourself on your blog. As we said before, people don’t just buy your product, they buy you!  So let them get a glimpse into your life so they can feel like they’re a friend, instead of just a customer.  Share embarrassing photos of your cat, or sneak peeks of your work, or take them on a tour of your studio.

5. Post a video on your about page.  Video is even better than photographs for sharing your personality because people can hear your voice and see your gestures.  It also feels like you’re talking to just them.

Amp up your personality in your brand so that your customers will be excited not only about your product/service but about you and your beliefs. If you do one of these five things every day, you’ll see a boost in your sales and fans within a week!
